Missing All Upper or Lower Teeth
Options for Replacing a Full Arch of Teeth
If you are missing all of your upper or lower teeth, implant-supported replacement options can provide greater stability than traditional dentures. At Gateway Dental Columbus, we offer ball attachment dentures and screw-retained dentures to replace a complete arch of teeth.
Dr. Strickland will evaluate your oral health, available bone, and treatment goals to recommend the option that best fits your needs.
Ball Attachment Denture
This option involves placing four implants in the jaw and creating a removable denture that snaps onto the implant attachments. These attachments help hold the denture securely in place, providing greater stability during chewing and speaking than a traditional denture without implants.
You remove the denture daily to clean it and the implant attachments. Some movement may still occur, and food particles can collect beneath the denture. Regular cleaning and periodic appointments for adjustments and attachment maintenance help keep the denture comfortable and functioning properly.
A ball attachment denture may be a good choice if you want improved stability while keeping the convenience of a removable appliance.
Screw-Retained Denture (All-on-X)
This option uses four to six implants to support a fixed denture that replaces all of the teeth in an upper or lower arch. The denture is retained by screws that secure it to support posts attached to the implants.
The restoration is designed to fit closely and flush along the gumline to minimize spaces where food may become trapped between the gum tissue and the bridge. Daily cleaning around the implants and beneath the restoration remains important, and our team will show you how to care for these areas.
Your screw-retained denture stays in place during everyday activities and is not removed at home. Dr. Strickland can remove it when necessary for professional maintenance or repairs.
This option may be preferred by patients who want fixed replacement teeth and are comfortable following the recommended daily cleaning routine and professional maintenance schedule.
Choosing the Right Option
Both ball attachment dentures and screw-retained dentures can replace missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. The main difference is that a ball attachment denture is removed at home for cleaning, while a screw-retained denture remains fixed in place.
During your consultation, Dr. Strickland will review your examination and imaging, discuss the recommended number and placement of dental implants, and explain treatment timing, maintenance needs, and costs. Your treatment plan will reflect your oral health, comfort preferences, and goals.
